Week after a ugly time

Ok weekly update time to anyone interested besides myself

This week of training went pretty well, I had 2 workouts and one 5k so overall just a normal week of training. The first workout was nothing crazy, just some 400’s 200’s and 100’s and just continued regular mileage throughout the week.

I raced the buffalo greekfest 5k for the first time and had a decent race. I was really looking to pr, because I know I’m in good aerobic shape right now but that didn’t happen. The night before I was trying to figure out what pace I wanted to go out in and when it came to race time that plan went to shit. I ended up running 7 secs faster than I should’ve on my first mile trying to stay with a guy I thought I could run with and realized too late that I didn’t quite have it in me. I ran 16:48 but ran really stupid. My mile splits were 5:08, 5:16, and 5:34….obviously it just got ugly.

I am oddly satisfied with the effort though, seeing that I can run 2 decent times this early just gives me a big boost of confidence. Midway through the 5 k the goal really just became to tolerate the pain and finish the race. I’m really looking to step outside my comfort zone and learn to deal with the pain that comes with racing.

So now that I have a good idea where my aerobic fitness is I’m taking time away from road racing this summer to focus on my mileage, my weight loss, my workouts, and my track racing. I’m gunna spend the next few months just logging some solid training and hoping that I can see some halfway decent track times as well as finding my former self.

Today’s workout wasn’t bad it was tempo and a few reps on the track, which felt pretty decent, but the heat definitely affected how I felt today and I ran my first tempo rep a bit too fast. Overall today was a success and it was a lot easier with my friend Josh running the workout with me.

I’ve been steadily dropping weight for a couple months now and today I say 149.8 on the scale after my run. (I was extremely dehydrated) The goal in that aspect is to drop down to 140-45 before a run. I’m really trying to just be in better overall shape and racing wise I need to be lighter. My coach and me talked about it and we are slowly gunna focus on getting down there. It really became more of a priority this past weekend just watching the races from the occidental meet. All of those elite athletes are just SOO fit and thin. I just see that although I’m not fat, or overweight (in contrast I’m quite in shape) there is just soo much more I can be doing to become more of a “real” runner.

I’m really glad this week of training went well; I needed to put the work in after seeing the 800 time I ran. Just knowing I mentally am with it this year and that the times aren’t affecting how I feel is good. Just keep putting in the work and the times will come, I’m really exited for this whole year.

Lastly my mileage wasn’t quite 60 this week but it wasn;t bad (57 miles) I want to run the next few weeks at 60-65 and just hope that mentally it will be easier to get out the door and double
